Sarah Orne Jewett House

Souvenirs

This plate, teacup, and saucer were sold in the 1940s or 50s by Rideout Hardware across the street from the Sarah Orne Jewett house. The pieces suggest how strong Jewett’s legacy remained in the town years after her death. When Jewett was alive, Rideout’s was in a building further down the street and was a convenient source for groceries as well as tools and fasteners.

A color lithograph was sold as a poster in the 1960s.
