Elise’s Photos of the Jewett House

From Jewett’s letters, it is apparent that visits between the two houses were common. Jewett was so pleased with the Tyson restoration of Hamilton House that in 1901 she wrote an out of character novel, The Tory Lover, as an homage to the site.

The novel, a romance, is anachronistically set at the house on the eve of the American Revolution (the house was not built until around 1787).

The Tysons were delighted with the book and decorated the home’s reception room in its honor, with decorative references to a featured character in the novel, John Paul Jones.
