Emily and Elise Tyson with an Unnamed Gentleman
Emily (left) and Elise (right) were passionate gardeners. Emily preferred a lusher, more freely expressed garden. Elise preferred an orderly garden.

They filled the house with antiques of Hamilton’s era, including model ships, and kept the name Hamilton House as an homage—the Tysons viewed the house history in a romanticized light.
