Bird of medicine. The map in the background is of the Chaudiere, Kennebec, and Penobscot rivers. The map was created by British army officer John Montesor in 1760. He was told by the Penobscot guides he hired that they would only escort him if he didn’t make a map of the territory; however, he didn’t obey their orders and made a map of the landscape anyway for military purposes.
