Sara “Sally” Norton

This painting by Hugh Glazebrook shows Sally at age forty-six, two years after her father died. In an ensemble of black and gray, Sally might still have been in half-mourning for her father.

Her mother having died when Sally was eight years old, she was close to her father throughout his life. She edited, with M.A. DeWolf Howe, Letters of Charles Eliot Norton (Boston, 1913).
