The Body Remembers
Ancestral and genetic memory carries forward Wabanaki resistance. Our people have lived with these lands since time immemorial. Beyond the stereotype of the “ecological Indian” there is a deep sense of knowing that comes from living within a landscape for such a long time. In our blood DNA exists the land, its nurturing spirit. The body remembers not only intergenerational traumas caused by the short-spanning life of colonial violence but also the much longer histories of resistance, the deep sense of belonging, love, and hope.
